Indonesia is a member of World Trade Organization (WTO) since 1 January 1995. As a member, Indonesia is bound to follow the TRIPS Agreement in the main area of Intellectual Property. WTO mentioned in their website that "The objective of this agreement is to reduce distortions and impediments to international trade, promotion of effective and adequate protection of intellectual property rights, and ensuring that measures and procedure to intellectual property rights do not themselves become barriers to legitimate trade". That is to apply and protect the intellectual property rights along with the rest of the members.
